The story behind Eric the Elephant.
I had been wanting to paint an Elephant for a long time, but was struggling to work out how to incorporate all the features like ears, trunk, tusks and still maintain the detail that I wanted to portray.
I always start my paintings with the eyes, and as I worked out from his eye I got to this point and Eric stopped me in my tracks, literally. Suddenly and powerfully we looked at each other, made a connection, had a “conversation” and that was that. All of the wisedom, soulful majesty and power that is an elephant came out of this painting and actually brought tears to my eyes. Sometimes less is so much more, and I hope Eric “speaks” to you too.
