The story behind Tommy Noddy, Farne Island Puffin
Puffins come in their thousands to breed on the Farne Islands, just off the Northumbrian coastline. They are locally known as Tommy Noddies, and they lay their eggs in burrows under the ground, away from airborne predators. I managed to take this photo of the puffin emerging from the burrow after it had taken the little sand eels in to it’s puffling safely hidden inside, and used it as reference for my painting.
This original piece of artwork is framed and ready to hang.
