The story behind Colin the Crab

I wanted to paint a different texture from the usual fur or feathers, so I went to the fish quay at North Shields to buy a live crab as my model. Much to the amusement of the fishermen there, who thought that I was a completely insane artist, I eventually came away with Colin. I took him down onto the beach at Tynemouth and we had a photo shoot, before he wandered off back into the sea to hopefully live for a while longer.
